A transient man charged in Bond County with sexual assault is also wanted in Michigan for allegedly molesting a 3-year-old girl.
Jeramiah A. Jones, 19, was charged with criminal sexual assault in Bond County Circuit Court on April 29. Police allege Jones used force to assault a woman on Monday, April 25 in Bond County.
Jones is also facing a felony charge of criminal sexual conduct in St. Joseph County, Mich., according to the clerk of the 3rd District Court in Centreville, Mich.
According to reports from Michigan State Police, Jones allegedly assaulted the girl, a family member, near Three Rivers, Mich., in August of 2015. The alleged abuse was reported to police by the girl’s mother, the reports say.
Jones was also wanted in Michigan on two other warrants unrelated to the criminal sexual conduct charge. According to Michigan State Police, he was wanted for retail fraud and possession of marijuana.
Jones was arrested near Pocahontas on April 27 by Pocahontas police, the Bond County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Service. Police said Jones had tried to evade arrested by fleeing from police on foot and later jumping in a lake, but he was ultimately taken into custody after about a 30-minute chase.
A Michigan State Police report from November 2015 said Jones also ran from local police when they attempted to interview him at his residence there.
Local authorities said Jones once had a prior address in Greenville and was believed to have come back to Bond County to stay with friends.
The criminal sexual assault charge in Bond County is a Class 1 felony, punishable by four to 15 years in prison, if convicted. Jones is being held in the Bond County Jail.
The criminal sexual conduct charge in Michigan is a Class A felony, punishable by up to life in prison.
