Memorial Day service

Grantfork UCC Cemetery will observe a Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30. The Grantfork UCC Cemetery located on the west side of Rt. 160 in Grantfork. The public is invited to attend.

There will be a Region 5 meeting at noon at Maedge’s Restaurant in Alhambra on May 26.

St. Gertrude Chicken dinner

St. Gertrude is preparing for its annual chicken dinner, which will be held on Sunday, June 5. Volunteers are needed and asked to sign up to clean the church before the dinner, on Tuesday, May 31 at 6 p.m., and after the dinner, on Monday June 6.

The Catholic Holy Family Society will again have the Country Store at the St. Gertrude Chicken Dinner. Organizers are asking for donations of baked and food items, crafts, homemade jellies and canned goods also go over well. Any questions, call Mary Rutz at 675-3420, Judy Gruner at 675-3578 or Emily Schwarz at 675-3386.

Donations for the chicken dinner raffle are also being accepted; contact Carly Ann Maurer at 488-3183 if you would like to make a donation.

Dessert Donations: Please remember your dessert donations for the chicken dinner on June 5. Each family is asked to donate at least four pies or three pies and one cake. (No cream pies. Sugar-free pies are needed.) When baking, place your pies on a cookie sheet to make sure the crust gets done. Please drop them off in the hall on the morning of the dinner.

Chicken Dinner Tickets: If you are interested in purchasing a gift certificate to give to someone for dinners at the upcoming chicken dinner on June 5, please contact Shirley Schwarz at 675-2883.

St. Gertrude’s repair project will be well under way with the pledges coming in, but there are still some pledges missing. Please send then in as soon as possible.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese, HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville and HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland recently announced Amy Leifer accepted the position of director of business development for all three HSHS Southern Illinois Division hospitals.

Liefer joined Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) as the director of fund development at St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland in 2011. She has held various leadership roles at HSHS, most recently serving as director of philanthropy for Holy Family Hospital in Greenville and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese and Highland.
