Alhambra’s annual homecoming will be held at the Alhambra Township Park on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4.
This year’s festival marks the 21st homecoming since being resurrected by the Alhambra Firemen-Legion Park Association, Alhambra Volunteer Fire Department and the Alhambra Jaycees in 1996.
Clay County Amusements is returning to provide the carnival rides and games and, as in previous years, you will be able to purchase ride armbands for $20 each both nights. Let your kids ride all night, while you listen to the awesome bands that lined up for this year.
Agent99 returns to take the stage at 8 p.m. on Friday night, and Jennifer Thompson and Harvest Drive Band will be rocking the park starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday night. You won’t want to miss listening and dancing to either of these exciting bands this year while you enjoy some cold beverages and great food.
Some new food items are being introduced this year to an already great food menu. There will still be fresh fried chicken, fish, and fries and savory barbecue pork steaks, plus burgers, bratwurst, and hot dogs. Organizers will be adding fried chicken livers/gizzards and breaded mushrooms to the menu. Quantities of the new food items will be limited, so make sure you get to the food stand early to get your share. Bottled soda, water and beer will also be available for purchase on the park’s handicap-accessible grounds.
The parade will step off at 7 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday. For more information on the parade, contact Greg Nihiser at (618) 946-3432. This year’s theme is “Star Spangled Parade.”
Gaga ball will also be back this year by popular demand. Gaga Ball is a free game offered by the First Baptist Church in Alhambra. Look for this year’s gaga ball pit to be set up inside the hockey rink.
Organizers are also looking for any local businesses and organizations to run vendor stands to aid them in raising money for themselves. For more information on getting a space for a vendor stand, contact Jill Gorenz at 488-6465 or via email at email@example.com.
