Marine Historical Society to hear about life in the 1800s

The July 11 meeting of Marine Historical Society will be at the Marine Senior Citizens Building, 101 W. Silver St. in Marine, at 7 p.m. The program will be about on the Flagg Family of Moro. Thomas Flagg came to America in 1637. His descendent was Will Flagg, who served in the Illinois House and Senate. The talk will be about the trials and experiences of life in the 1800s.

The regular meeting of the society will follow. Some things that may be discussed are the Veteran Memorial project, walking tour of Marine, T-shirts, DVD of the Schaefer building demo, and other events, bounce house for the balloon event, fundraising and results of the homecoming.

Marine Historical Society meetings are open to anyone who wishes to learn about the past, as well as plans for the future. Membership is $5 per person or $10 per family and due July 1 of each year. To learn more about the society, check out the website marinehistoricalsociety.org
