Alhambra news for the week of June 29

Fireworks

The Alhambra Jaycees invite you to enjoy dinner outdoors, a firework show, and an evening Alhambra Township Park on Monday, July 4. Fireworks start at dusk. Food will be available at 7 p.m. Food and refreshments include: root beer floats, canned sodas, funnel cakes, popcorn, burgers, bratwurst and hot dogs. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Also, enjoy the playground, tennis courts and hockey rink at the park.

Hitz Home News

Mazzio’s night

Come eat at Mazzio’s in Highland from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 18 on to help the auxiliary support Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra. A portion of your bill will be donated to the Hitz Auxiliary.

Gospel group to perform

Hitz residents will enjoy the country gospel group New Jerusalem Singers on Tuesday, July 26 at 3 p.m.

Salem Confirmation Homecoming

Salem Untied Church of Christ in Alhambra will hold its fourth annual Confirmation Homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 7. This special event is held every year to commemorate key years for confirmands. This year’s will classes will honor those from years: 1946, 1956, 1966 (50th anniversary), 1976, 1986, 1996, 2006, and 2016. A special worship service will be at 9 a.m. with a brunch and fellowship following the service.

Alhambra Care Center

Alhambra Care residents had a fun-filled week. Sterling Schoen entertained on the piano, as they celebrated the 1960s and ’70s with hippie-style clothing and a special tie-dyed cake for refreshments.

A Fathers Day celebration was enjoyed by all, with Ms. Shirley Mitchell on the accordion. It was also a time to check out the garden that was put in by Don Pratt for the benefit of the residents.

A mock wedding was a fun time for all. The ladies had fun recounting their own weddings and the fact that divorce was frowned on and couples learned to work out their problems.

Aviary visitors were next on the day schedule. Everyone loves the visits with the parrot and cockatiels and chameleons.

Line dancers from Bethalto were here to entertain on Friday afternoon. Friday morning, a Bible class with Don Pratt and help from Si Weiss and his harmonica with the gospel music.
