Highland’s Stuck on Earth book club to discuss “Small is Beautiful”

The Stuck on Earth book club will meet July 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Latzer Library in Highland to discuss, E.F.Schumacher’s 1973 book, Small is Beautiful. The public is welcome.

Schumacher was a British economist who recognized the inefficiencies of an economy that put continued growth over preservation of community, land, air, water and earth’s resources. The ideal economy is one where everyone has enough, a sufficient amount of necessities, but that the Earth is still renewed in the process. “Fritz,” as Schumacher was fondly called, said that economic “progress is good only to the point of sufficiency. Beyond that, it is evil, destructive and uneconomic.” Come see how this man who influenced the last decades of the 20th century is still influencing today’s society.

The book club is part of the Greater Highland Area Concerned Citizens, which meets on the third Thursday of each month to learn about pressing issues affecting the, Earth, and what local citizens, as individuals and a community, can do about them.
