Grave-marking ceremony to be held for Revolutionary War solider near Highland
The Gen. George Rogers Clark Chapter Illinois Society Sons of the American Revolution will hold a grave-marking ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 31 at Gullick Cemetery, which is located off Leroy Road in the area known as Sebastopol, southeast of Highland. The ceremony will honor the service of patriot John Gullick Jr.
Gullick, who was born in what is now Lincoln County, N.C., was married to Rebecca Davidson. They had seven children. After Rebecca’s death and his move to Illinois, Gullick married Hannah Ramsey in Madison County. He died on March 15, 1832, at age 82.
The SAR chapter would like for any descendants of John Gullick Jr. to attend and be part of this event.
The Gen. George Rogers Clark Chapter serves Madison, Jersey, Macoupin, Bond, Greene, Calhoun and Montgomery counties. In addition to marking graves of Revolutionary War patriots, the chapter presents awards to Eagle Scouts, recognizes outstanding high school seniors, hosts an essay contest, presents historic flag programs, participates in parades and other events to promote patriotism.
