Highland area police briefs for July 11-17

Editor’s note: The following incidents were listed among the official reports of local law enforcement agencies and court clerks. Readers are reminded that an arrest or charge does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

Man gets 9 years for robbing Maryville gas station

A Glen Carbon man will spend the next nine years in federal prison for armed robbery.

Jonathan Michael Malone, 53, was sentenced in United States District Court in East St. Louis on interference of commerce by robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and brandishing of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. He was found guilty on July 12.

Malone has one previous conviction of armed robbery and was in unlawful possession of the gun when he robbed the One Stop Shop Gas Station in Maryville on Jan. 14. He had brandished the gun at the gas station’s owner.

Upon his release from prison, Malone must serve three years probation and pay both a fine and restitution fee to the owner.
