Marine author pens two more books

Charles “Chuck” Schwend has authored two new books, The Palace of Virtual Reality, a novel, and a collection of short stories, The Keys, And Other Short Stories.

The Palace of Virtual Reality’s main character is an elderly science professor who discovers how to bring holograms to life. His first re-creation is Merlin, the magician, followed by Aphrodite and other Greek gods. His murder at the hands of a rival professor starts a chain of events involving murder, jealousy, lust and adventure.

The Keys, And Other Short Stories is a collection of riveting short stories that will engage the most discriminating reader. It is a collection of fantasy, horror, memoirs, science fiction and bizarre. There is a genre to please any taste.

The Palace of Virtual Reality and The Keys, And Other Short Stories are available in print form from Amazon, Ebay, Bookstores, Quill To Book Publishing and the author. They are also available from Amazon in an digital format for electronic readers. Printed books are $14.99 and E-books are $2.99.

Schwend previously authored Dragon Dreams; Words To Read – A Collection of Short Stories; Gulag #7 – The Authorized Biography of Karl Heinz Lawrenz; and The Magical Switch.

Schwend served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a chief petty officer. He majored in journalism, with a specialization in museology, the conservation, preservation and restoration of museum artifacts. He co-founded the Highland League of Writers in 2008.

His leisure activities include beekeeping, shiitake mushroom cultivation, homemade wines and cordials, and raising unusual fruits.

Charles “Chuck” Schwend will hold signings for his most recent works, The Palace of Virtual Reality and The Keys, And Other Short Stories, on:

▪ Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Highland Diner, 418 Walnut St.;

▪ Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the annual Highland Street Festival on the Square.
