Alhambra, Grantfork & New Douglas news for the week of July 27
Alhambra
Township offers emergency cooling center
Due to the extreme heat during the month of July and chances of it continuing through August, Alhambra Township Supervisor Jerry Frank has deemed the Firemen & Legion Hall as an emergency cooling center in the event the power is off for an extended time.
The township has finished work on the inside of the oldest part of the township shed. New tin and insulation has been put up.
Oiling of the township roads is still going ahead. It was planned for every Friday during July, but due to rainy weather, it may have to be extended to August. The township got really good prices on the oil this year.
Alhambra Care Center
Fun times for the residents this week. Old dance crazes were discussed and parodies of dances such as the Funky Chicken, The Pony, Mashed Potatoes, Swim, the Jerk were all pantomimed as what they could be besides a dance. Later, Rich Henry brought his rabbit, Destiny, in for everyone to pet and enjoy. Rich has fun telling stories about all the interesting people that come to his Route 66 Store.
The Lady of Snows Kitchen Band was a big hit with the residence, as they played show tunes and then had everyone guess the name of the song and what show it was from.

Please give the location of the light. The village workers may not go down your street after dark so have no way of knowing the lights are out.
Sewer Problems
In the event of sewer problems, it may save money if you call the Alhambra village clerk’s office before calling a a sewer cleaning service, so the village mains can be checked first to assure they are not blocked. It is advised to not put baby wipes or so called disposable wipes and grease or other tough materials in the sanitary sewer as this will cause blockages in the lines, sewer mains and pump impellers.
Village Web Site
Villagers are invited to check out the village website at www.villageofalhambra.com. The website includes a list of all village officers, events, history and zoning codes. The sites will be used to notify the public of new events and important public notices.
Residents’ Phone Numbers
The Alhambra village clerk is asking all residents to see that the village office has a current phone number for each household. In the event of a water or gas leak, it may be necessary to contact someone immediately. Phone numbers will not be shared with anyone and will be used only to disseminate necessary information to residents.
