Anne Hundsdorfer of 814 Laurel St. in Highland was awarded Highland Garden Club’s Yard of the Month for August.

Hundsdorfer grew up in this home, which was built by her dad. She still has plants that her mother planted, such as Easter lillies, blaze rose, and peonies.

She has collected flagstones from her travels, rocks from the Ozarks and shells from Florida, all of which are scattered throughout her garden.

There is a Swiss sign above her front door, which given to her from a visitor from Switzerland.

It reads: “Jeder Wunsche Mir Was Er Will. Gott Gebe ihm Drei Mal Soviel.” Many people stop by to ask her what the saying means.

The literal translation is: “Everyone wishes me what He wants. God Give him three times much.”

Hundsdorfer’s interpretation is: “Whatever you wish for me, God gives you three times as much.”

There are also three shields placed above the garage door, which were made by her husband.

she has a patio on the side of the home with elephant ear, and lady’s mantle and hostas, which were planted there by her daughter, Diana, who passed away in 2015. The garden is dedicated to Diane.

There are many different plants in this yard and around the small patio that invite you to come and sit awhile. There are hostas, a gazing ball made by her neice, a lovely bird bath, and a whimsical bunny to welcome you. Humming birds also hover around the feeder on the front porch.

A plant stand on the porch holds dahlias and aloe, and other planters have a variety of annuals. Some of the other plants are goldfinger potentilla, little lime hydrangeas, forget-me-nots, columbine, daisies, day lilies, Yukka, clematis, yellow climbing rose, knock out rose, blaze rose bush, sweet autumn clematis, crimson azalea, autumn sedum, and arugula. She also has a small vegetable garden with tomatoes, garlic, cucumbers, and green peppers.

There were many calls of nominations for this very interesting and attractive yard. Take a drive and check it out.
