New Douglas Rec Plex fall schedule to include card nights, movie nights, homework help, and much more

The New Douglas Rec Plex fall schedule is set.

The following activities will be held for children and adults:

▪ Mondays: Pinochle in the afternoon and euchre beginning at 6:30 p.m.

▪ Tuesdays: Two sessions of dance classes, 5:45 and 6 p.m., beginning Sept. 6, and one aerobics class that can be registered and paid on that date.

▪ Wednesday, Sept 7, the toddler gymnastics begins at 6 p.m.

▪ Either Wednesday or Thursday, Valerie Root will be scheduling the “Introduction to Personal Computing” class based on participants needs.

▪ Friday is New Douglas Youth Group and two sessions of Karate.

▪ Saturday mornings are scheduled for youth Wiffle ball for ages 4-12, outside initially, and then in the gym when the weather gets bad.

▪ On Thursday, Sept. 15, community members can register for all fall classes in the gym from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and if you haven’t recently taken a tour of the building, they will be offered that evening.

Homework Haven

All classes, except dance and gymnastics, will not start until the week of Sept. 19. That week, the after-school Homework Haven also opens in the cafeteria on Tuesday and Thursdays with homework support, a snack, and recreation. Volunteers for homework support are still needed, and the volunteer applications will be available on Sept. 15 for 1  1/2 hours per month of volunteer time in any area you wish. Homework Haven participants must be registered in order to attend this activity.

Classes for Moms & Kids

Moms and Tots Playtime, Storytime, and New Moms Support groups will be scheduled based on the community needs.

A free infant and toddler CPR class will be scheduled in September at the Rec Plex by the New Douglas Volunteer Fire Department. There will be no fee for this class, and depending upon the response, additional sessions may be scheduled to make sure all parents have these skills.

Movie Night

Put Oct. 25 at 6p.m. on your calendar for the Rec Plex bonfire. Cook your own hotdogs. (You bring your own and the Rec Plex will have buns and condiments. Then, there will be a movie in the gym, Underdog, sponsored by Kim and Duane Scallenberg. Family movie nights can be scheduled beginning Sept. 15, so bring your movie title and talk to Peggy about getting on the calendar and how a family sponsors a movie at the Rec Plex.

And more...

All-new and exciting activities are planned for this fall and winter and the Rec Plex staff will work with the community to develop new ideas that can meet the needs of the community.

Class fees are available for both members and non-members for this fall schedule at the Rec Plex, and if you have a good idea for an activity, please share it with Rec Plex staff.
