Joan Friedrich, 86

Joan M. Friedrich, 86, of Bethalto died peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Bethalto Care Center, with her family by her side. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will follow the visitation on Wednesday at the church.

Joan M. Friedrich, 86, of Bethalto died peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Bethalto Care Center, with her family by her side.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will follow the visitation on Wednesday at the church, with Father Tom Liebler offciating. Burial will follow at St. Gertude Cemetery in Grantfork. Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton is in charge of arrangements.

She was born April 11, 1929 in Litchfield to Oliver and Florence (Geers) Landolt. On June 30, 1948, she and James J. Friedrich were married in Livingston. He survives in Bethalto.

Mrs. Friedrich was a 1946 graduate and valedictorian of Highland High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto and had been an active member of St. Kevin’s Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. She was an avid reader and loved to bowl.

In addition to her husband of 66 years, she is also survived by sons, Thomas (Jennifer) Friedrich of Highland, Richard (Debora) Friedrich of San Jose, Calif., and Alan (Donna Varble) Friedrich of Brighton; daughters, Mary (Frank) Haynes of Bethalto, Karen Bourbon of St. Charles, Ill., and Carol (Dale) Alcorn of Belleville; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Lawrence Landolt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Masses or Our Lady Queen of Peace.
