Daniel Stallings, 71

Daniel J. “Dan” Stallings, 71, of Highland died on Friday, May 15, 2015 at his home.

A funeral Mass was held on Monday, May 18 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Charles A. Edwards, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland at a later date. Meridith Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Feb. 1, 1944 in St. Louis, Mo. On Dec. 2, 1967, he married Connie Lee Gillespie at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in St. Louis, Mo. She survives in Highland.

Mr. Stallings was a store manager for A&P national grocery store chain in Missouri and spearheaded the project to bring Kroger into Highland. He was the manager here for several years and later moved to Texas with Kroger.

He loved sports cars and even owned a few Corvettes during his time in Highland.

He was an avid sportsman and was a football coach for his sons when they were young. He took his family on vacations to see the national parks several years. He supported all of his children in their artistic and scholastic endeavors.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland.

He is also survived by his children, Douglas John (Elizabeth) Wright of California, Steven Matthew Stallings of Texas and Johnna Marie Stallings of Texas; and grandchildren, Zachary Miller, Skyii Guzman and Maximillion Stallings.

Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors or ALS.
