Felicitas Korte, 91
Felicitas R. “Felix” Korte, 91, of Highland died on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Faith Care Center in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 21 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Scott A. Snider officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
She was born on Dec.16, 1923 on the family farm off of Illinois Route 4, southwest of St. Jacob, to Edward A. and Phillipina “Bena” (Fohne) Mersinger. On Sept. 10, 1947, she married Alfred J. “Al” Korte, who passed away on July 17, 1998.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was also a member of the former Daughters of Isabella and a former member of the St. Anne Altar Society.
Mrs. Korte attended Black Jack County School. She briefly worked at Wicks Organ Co. Following her marriage, she worked at home, then helped her husband with Korte-Richter Meat Processing, which they opened in 1969. It is now operated by her son as Korte Meat Processing.
She did a lot of community volunteer work. She was a Meals on Wheels driver and helped with Daughters of Isabella activities.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She has been in the same rummy card club since the early 1970s.
Survivors include a son, David E. (Therese M.) Korte of Highland; daughters, Diane M. (David) Schwind of Glen Carbon and Sue A. (William “Marty”) Wilson of Highland; grandchildren, Shandy L. (Gerald) Klein of Glen Carbon, Shawn A. (Shannon) Hogg of Highland, Amy L. (Jason) Koerkenmeier of Highland, Anita M. (Rob) Zbinden of St. Jacob, Katie M. Schwind of Waimea, Hawaii, Shelby L. (Chad) Bartoszkiewicz of Edwardsville, Mike M. (wife Beth Rapoff) Wilson of Granite City, Kyle D. (Amanda) Korte of Highland and Matthew D. Schwind of Kissligg, Germany; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Klein, Joshua Klein, Syler Hogg, Shayden Hogg, Sayde Hogg, Finn Wilson, Charlotte Wilson, Kyler Koerkenmeier, Kendyl Koerkenmeier, Kira Bartoszkiewicz, Khloe Bartoszkiewicz, Brittin Korte, Landry Korte, Landon McKinnon, Jayna Zbinden and Dexter Zbinden.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Emil F. Mersinger, who died on Oct. 29, 2006, Lawrence G. Mersinger, who died on Dec. 16, 1983, and Clarence E. Mersinger, who died on June 21, 2009.
