Irma Grotefendt, 95
Irma I. Grotefendt, 95, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Marine, died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka.
Cremation has taken place, and as per her wishes, no services are planned. Private inurnment will take place in Marine Cemetery at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Dec. 4, 1919 in Marine to Edward and Margaret Henze Grotefendt.
Ms. Grotefendt moved to Topeka in 1940. She was employed by State Farm Insurance Co., the Santa Fe Railway Co., and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where she retired in 1985 after 30 years of service.
Survivors include nephews, Carl (Barb) Whitehouse, the Rev. Bill (Jane) Kesting, Rande (Judy) Grotefendt, Brad Grotefendt and Dale (Kay) Grotefendt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a niece, Marg Roth; two sisters, Viola Kesting, Elva Whitehouse; and a brother, Harold Grotefendt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may made to United Church of Christ of Marine or to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library Foundation, 1515 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604, for its large-print book program.
