Lorraine B. Frey, 86, of Aviston died on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Carlyle Health Care Center in Carlyle.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 6 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 6 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1928 in Saline Township, five miles east of Highland, to Herman F. and Margaret E. (Baumgartner) Frey. On May 20, 1947, she married James L. Frey. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage together. He passed away on June 10, 2006.
Mrs. Frey grew up on the family farm. After her marriage, she moved to Highland and raised five children. She then moved to Bethalto and worked at Civic Memorial High School as a cook for 15 years. In 1988, she retired and moved to Aviston.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting afghans, and raising flowers. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston.
Survivors include daughters, Judith A. (Joseph) Carroll of Mount Vernon, Ill., Jean M. Frey of Fairview Heights and Brenda M. (Kenneth) Costanzo of East Alton; sons, Daniel J. (Suzanne M.) Frey of Waterloo and Matthew E. (fiancee Nancy Stansbury) Frey of Encino, Calif.; grandchildren, Tamara L. (Michael) Tadlock of Larkspur, Colo., David J. (Alicia) Carroll of New Baden, Angela M. (Nathan) Higgins of New Baden, Dawn M. (Leon) Bradley of Waterloo, Jason D. Frey of Seattle, Wash., Cameron T. Costanzo of East Alton, Kyle L. Costanzo of East Alton; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Nicole Bauer of Larkspur, Colo., Rory Nichole Bradley and Rachel Claire Bradley of Waterloo, and Oliver James Frey of Osa Ann Frey of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Alvin H. Frey of Pierron; and a sister, Laura E. Loyet of Highland.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gerard J. Frey, who died on Feb. 21, 1958, at age 1 day; brothers, Francis J. Frey, who died on July 19, 2009, Peter “Junior” Frey, who died on Sept. 26, 1991, and Vincent J. “Vince” Frey, who died on Nov. 30, 1994; and sisters, Lenora E. “Toots” Holzinger, who died on Jan. 17, 2007, and Loretta Hock Trame, who died on June 19, 2007.
