John W. Carter, 52, of Highland died on Monday, June 8, 2015 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10 at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation on Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Donahue, chaplain of Anderson Hospital in Maryville officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
He was born on March 29, 1963 in St. Louis, Mo., to John C. and Kay Carter. On Feb.12, 2012, he married Rena Ward in Highland. She survives in Highland.
Mr. Carter was a great dad, husband and friend. He worked hard and played hard. He had a love for riding motorcycles, watching NASCAR and drinking Mountain Dew.

He is also survived by his mother, who lives in Pocahontas; children, Jared C. Carter of Highland, Brandi-Wave M. (T.J.) Cox of Carlyle, and Jessica Carter of Highland; grandchildren, Caleb Carter, Colby Turner, Jordan Cox, Gage Cox, Ryker Cox and Shane Bowling; brothers and sisters, Robin Beam of Tulsa, Okla., Mary Foltz of Centralia, Barbara (Will) Gomilla of Greenville, Karen Willmont of St. Jacob, Roger (Katie) Carter of Staunton, Paula (Jason) Brooks of Highland, Patrick Carter of Pocahontas, Eric (Jeannie) Harder of Westminster, Calif., and Katherine Smith of Idaho; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his dog, Hannah.
He was preceded in death by his father, who died in 2012.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
