John Hurst, 76

John Eugene “Johnny” Hurst, 76, of Alhambra died on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Des Peres Hospital in Des Peres, Mo.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 12 at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville, with the Rev. John Mindrup, associate pastor of Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Alhambra.

He born June 11, 1938 in Keyesport to Russell and Velma Irene (Knutt) Hurst. He married Lucille N. Leidner on Dec. 24, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Greenville. She passed away on Dec. 21, 2007.

Mr. Hurst was raised on the family farm, attended local schools and graduated from Greenville High School with the class of 1956.

He worked at the DeMoulin Brothers factory in Greenville, where he was a clothing designer and pattern maker. He moved to Joplin, Mo., in the late 1970s and lived there for many years. He retired in 2002 and moved back to Alhambra.

Mr. Hurst loved music, and it was a big part of his life.

Surviving are his son, Jeffrey A. (Sherry) Hurst of Alhambra; grandchildren, Jillian Hurst, Jeffrey Hurst Jr., and John Hurst; and a step-grandson, Nathan Koonce.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
