Helen Thiems, 83
Helen Thiems, 83, of New Douglas died on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be held on from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, with a Scripture service beginning at 5 p.m., at Lesicko Funeral Home in Livingston. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston, with Father George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be in the New Douglas Cemetery.
She was born on Feb. 15, 1932 in Litchfield to Andrew and Catherine (Matasae) Luketich. She married to Gilbert C. Thiems on Sept. 26, 1959 in Wilsonville, Ill. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2011.
Mrs. Thiems was a cafeteria worker at the Olin Brass Corp. manufacturing facility in East Alton.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston and was a former member of St. Ubaldus Catholic Church in New Douglas, Tobias Bilyeu American Legion Auxiliary in New Douglas, the New Douglas Senior Citizens and Madison County Home Extension. She was active as a room mother while her children were in grade school.
Survivors include daughters, Connie Thiems of New Douglas and Joyce (Steve) Murdick of Overland Park, Kan.; a son, Glenn Thiems of New Douglas; grandchildren, Matthew (Katie) Murdick of Belton Mo., Mark Murdick of Overland Park, Kan., and Thomas Murdick of Belton Mo.; great-granddaughters, Nella Murdick and Lucy Murdick; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Mary Catherine, who died at birth; and another sister, Anne Fraelle.
Memorials may be made to the New Douglas Fire Department, the Unknown Soldier Monument Fund, or Masses.
