Evelyn E. Gruenenfelder, 95, of Highland died on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17 and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 18 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 18 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Scott A. Snider officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1919 in Highland to Adolph “Otto” and Mary A. (Walter) Weidner. On June 2, 1948, she married Clifford J. “Crip” Gruenenfelder. He passed away on July 2, 2014.
Mrs. Gruenenfelder was reared in Highland and graduated from St. Paul High School. After school, she was a domestic engineer for several prominent families in Highland.

She had also worked at the Moulton-Bartley shoe factory, Highland Supply Corp., St. Joseph’s Hospital, and operated a taxi service business with her husband in Highland in the 1950s.
In 1984, they moved to Zschokke Street in Highland. Prior to that, they had lived at 700 8th Street in Highland.
Before retiring, she worked at Schroeder Cheese Shop in Highland.
Mrs. Gruenenfelder was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching classic movies. As a young lady, she loved to ride her bike for both transportation and enjoyment. She also enjoyed dancing with her husband and tending to her flower garden.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a former honorary member of the St. Anne Altar Society.
Survivors include a son, Kevin G. (Debbria S.) Gruenenfelder of Highland; a granddaugher, Regina R. Ripperda of Highland; a granddaughter-in-law, Wendy M. Gruenenfelder of Highland; and great-grandchildren, Courtney M. Gruenenfelder, Highland, Gage D. Gruenenfelder, Kelsey L. Gruenenfelder, Highland, Keely S. Gruenenfelder, Brianna R. Ripperda and Isaiah R. Moore, all of Highland; and sisters-in-law, Mildred O. Weidner and Florence L. Weidner, both of Highland.
She was also preceded in death by her father, who died on Nov. 30, 1970; her mother, who died on Nov. 23, 1989; a grandson, Corey J. Gruenenfelder, who died on Aug. 28, 2012; a brother, Cletus E. Weidner, who died on Nov. 30, 1997; sisters, Alberta M. Stueber, who died on June 29, 1996, and Grace Rieke, who died on Jan. 17, 1990; a brother, Raymond O. Weidner, who died on July 30, 1991; brothers-in-law, Melvin Stueber, who died on April 25, 1994, Neil Rieke, who died on Dec. 2, 1984, and Walter Weidner, who died on Sept. 6, 1990; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Weidner and Phyllis Weidner.
