Vernon Klueter, 87
Vernon F. Klueter, 87, of Glen Carbon died on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Edwardsville. A celebration of life service will follow at 11 a.m., with Rev. Diane Grohmann officiating. According to his wishes, Mr. Klueter was cremated, and a graveside committal will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 20 at Highland City Cemetery. Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on April 24, 1928 in Edwardsville to Emil J. and Matilda (Dettmer) Klueter. He married Eunice Knoche on Aug. 5, 1951. She preceded him in death on May 11, 1989. He later married Dorothy Hanser Neuhaus on Oct. 26, 1991, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2014.
Mr. Klueter was co-owner of Klueter Feed Store in Edwardsville from 1953-1965. He retired as the office manager at Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. in Highland, where he worked from 1966-1991.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Edwardsville. He also served on the church council at Eden United Church of Christ from 1963-1965 and was treasurer in 1965. He was a former member of the Highland United Church of Christ from 1966-1981, where he served on the church council finance committee.
Mr. Klueter was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a bowler for many years and loved to travel.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth (Ann) Klueter of Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Karla Klueter of Carbondale and Kim (Edward) Morzak of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Klueter, Daniel Klueter and Lauren (Cody) Tubbs ; a great-granddaughter, Reagan; step-children, Rick (Cindy) Neuhaus, Gary (Janet) Neuhaus and Annette Griebel; and step-grandchildren, Nick and Megan Griebel, and Joe Ball.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ.
