Maria Deibert, 51

Maria Jean Deibert, 51, of Highland died on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A memorial service will follow the visitation on Tuesday at the funeral home, with Father Pat G. Jakel, pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, officiating. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery at a later date.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1964 in Highland to John T. “Tom” and LaGreta A. (Lease) Steinmann. On Oct. 7, 1995, she married John Daniel Deibert. He survives in Highland.

Mrs. Deibert moved to Plainville, Ill., and she lived there until she was in second grade, then returned to Highland. She graduated from Highland High School in 1982.

She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a nurse’s aid and later worked in medical records. She then worked in Dr. Diaz’s office in the billing department and then at Clean Uniform Co. She was very active with her son’s Scouting activities and the Highland Hockey Club.

She enjoyed gardening, yard work, feeding and watching the hummingbirds, and scrapbooking.

She was a member of the Catholic faith and was a life member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a life member of VFW Auxiliary Post 5694 in Highland and American Legion Auxiliary Post 665 in St. Jacob. She coordinated the VFW Easter Egg Hunt for many years.

Other survivors include sons, Jeremy S. Goebel of Highland and Daniel T. Deibert of Highland; a daughter, Jennifer M. Morstain of Alton; a sister, Michell A. (Tom) Rakers of Jamestown; and brothers, Timothy J. (Kathy) Steinmann Sr. of Highland and Thomas E. (Jane) Steinmann of Highland.

She was preceded in death by her father, who died on Oct. 1, 2007; her mother, who died on Sept.17, 2012; and a special aunt, Loretta “Jeanie” Lease.

Memorials may be made to the Highland Area Christian Service Ministry (HACSM) food pantry,; the VFW Auxiliary, St. Jacob American Legion Auxiliary or St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary.
