Betty A. Volz, 89
Betty A. Volz, 89, of Highland, formerly of Alhambra, died on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 at Legacy Place in Highland.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 and from 8 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at Salem UCC, with the Rev. Jerry Amiri, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Alhambra. Meridith Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on July 13, 1926 in Hillsboro, Ill., to Irvin and Frances (Roseman) Barnes. On June 16, 1946, she married Alfred Volz at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra. He survives in Highland.
Mrs. Volz moved to Alhambra in 1943 and graduated from Highland High School in 1944. She worked for Shell Oil Co. until 1947, then at Alhambra-Grantfork Feed Co., until 1954. She also worked for Alhambra-Grantfork Telephone Co. for two years, then Southern Illinois University Edwardsville as an accountant in the accounts receivable department, retiring in 1987.
She enjoyed reading books, traveling, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, the American Legion Auxiliary, Salem Women’s Guild, Hitz Memorial Home Board of Directors and the Southwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging.
Other survivors include a daughter, Nancy J. Taylor of Highland; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Volz of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Todd (Trina) Volz, Travis (Shannon) Volz, Derrick (Ailee) Taylor; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol L. (Bob) Dauderman of Alhambra; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, David L. Volz.
Memorials may be made to Salem United Church of Christ or Hitz Memorial Home.
