Marie Bornhauser Breeze, 96
Marie L. Bornhauser Breeze, 96, of Highland died on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015 at Highland Health Care Center in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, with the Rev. Christopher W. Hill, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
She was born on April 15, 1919 in Highland to Arthur A. and Louise M. (Blum) Riggs. She married Melvin W. Bornhauser on June 24, 1939, and he passed away on April 4, 1975. She married Harold E. Breeze on May 22, 1976; he passed away on Sept. 14, 2005.
Mrs. Bornhauser Breeze graduated from Highland High School in 1936. She had worked for Moulton Bartley Shoe Corp. She moved to De Soto, Mo., in 1962, then to Bellevilew, Fla., in 1988, and back to Highland in 2008. She enjoyed playing pinochle and traveling. She made trips to Hawaii, the Bahamas, twice, and New York.
She was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland. She had formerly been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ocala, Fla., the Ocala Pinochle Club, Ocala Senior Citizens and Hope United Church of Christ in De Soto, Mo.
Survivors include daughters, Linda M. (Bruce) Weber of Anthony, Fla., and Pamela L. Null of De Soto, Mo.; a sister, Blanche Witschie of Highland; her caregiver, Judy A. (Allen) Luehm of Highland; and grandchildren, Katheryn (Steve) Johnson of Ocala, Fla., Sharon (David) Anderson of Ocala, Fla., Kerri (Jeff) Mackey of Citra, Fla., and Michael (Crystal) Henderson of Overland, Mo.
She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Dustin Johnson of Ocala, Fla.; Kassie (John) Batten of Silver Springs, Fla.; James (significant other Jessica) Henderson of Ocala, Fla.; Kelsie, Payton and Lillie Anderson, all of Ocala, Fla.; Kayla Dunn of Dunnellon, Fla.; Dennis Mackey of Citra, Fla.; Brianna Haviland of Florida; Donian Denney of Michigan; Caressa Henderson of Florida; Jordan Henderson of Overland, Mo.; Jordan Berns of Miller, Mo.; Cassandra Curtright of St. Charles, Mo.; Jessie Henderson of Miller, Mo.; Savanna Henderson, Timothy “T.J.”, Jonas and Gavin Henderson, all of Overland, Mo.; Jacob Kelly of De Soto, Mo.; Juli Ann Kelly of Montana; and Joshua Cottrell of Arkansas; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Le Ann M. Cottell, who died on March 19, 2013; sisters, Grace C. Luehm Iberg, who died on June 28, 2011, and Betty Schwarz, who died on June 17, 1971; and brothers, the Rev. John O. Riggs, who died on Feb. 5, 2011, Archie W. Riggs, who died on Feb. 8, 2005, Clifton A. “Otto” Riggs, who died on Jan. 11, 1998, and Calvin O. “Callie” Riggs, who died on Nov. 10, 1998.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice, Evangelical United Church of Christ or to Highland Home.
