Pauline C. Thuenemann, 82, of Highland died on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Pat G. Jakel, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
She was born on March 9, 1933 in Aviston to Theodore and Helena (Wolters) Frohn. On May 11, 1955, she married Vincent Bernard “Van” Thuenemann. He passed away on Jan. 6, 2014.
Mrs. Thuenemann grew up and helped on the family farm. She worked for Brown Shoe Co. in Trenton.
She lived in New Jersey while her husband was in the service. They moved to Highland in 1956, and she reared her family. She worked for Pamida, Sears and The Shopper’s Review. She was active in taking care of her grandchildren, and she had been a caregiver for Jeannette Graham for years.
She and her husband loved to travel to Europe, Hawaii and the Western states. She was a fan of Neil Diamond, and her favorite song was Sweet Caroline.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was also a member of Ladies Auxiliary to Knights of Columbus 1580 in Highland. She and her husband were very active with Knight of Columbus.
Survivors include sons, Alan S. (Lori) Thuenemann of Highland, Kurt V. (Charlotte) Thuenemann of Prairie Village, Kan., and Kevin A. (Dawn) Thuenemann of Highland; a daughter, Vicky L. (Edgar) Zurliene of Greenwood, Mo.; grandchildren, Joshua A. (Rachel) Thuenemann of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Jared A. (Gabby) Thuenemann of Edwardsville, Ashley L. (Sanford) Queen of Olathe, Kan., Kahla R. Zurliene of Kansas City, Mo., Sophia N. Thuenemann of Prairie Village, Kan., Sabrina C. Thuenemann of Prairie Village, Kan., Eleanor G. Thuenemann of Prairie Village, Kan., Ashley R. Marti of Lebanon and Mariah L. Thuenemann of Highland; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Brynn E. Thuenemann of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Austin A. and Harper N. Queen of Olathe, Kan., and Brayden E.V. Zurliene of Kansas City, Mo.; and a sister, Dorothy C. Thole of Highland.
She was also preceded in death by her father, who died on Nov. 22, 1971; her mother, who died on Aug. 8, 1969; a sister, Lorone M. Rehkemper, who died on May 9, 2008; and a brother, Charles F. Frohn, who died on April 12, 1999.
