Pat A. Jakel Walker, 84, of Highland died on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015 at Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Meridith Funeral Home and and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at St. Paul Church in Highland. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 am at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Pat Jakel, pastor, officiating. Burial will be St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
She was born on June 6, 1931 to Louis and Creta (Hill) Meyer. On Nov. 3, 1951, she married to Otto E. Jakel of Highland, who preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1984.
She graduated from Highland High School and then attended St. Luke’s Nursing School in St. Louis. She was a member of St. Paul Parish.
She was a very out-going, spirited individual who did not know a stranger. She loved to travel and cruise. Between her time in Highland and Naples, Fla., she loved playing golf and socializing over cards and Mah Jongg, but most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by her children, Lee Ann (Tom) Head, Otto (Angie) Jakel, Robert (Margaret) Jakel, Eric (Brandi) Jakel, Daniel Jakel, Sterling (Mary) Jakel , Brian (Linda) Jakel, Gordon (Dana) Jakel, Lynn (Jim) Brinkman and Patrick (Faye) Jakel; grandchildren, Dena (Kevin) Davis, Aaron (Julie) Head, Audrey (Joel) Jun, Amber (Jarrod) Crotchett, Ava Jakel, Chelsea Jakel, Jennifer (Amy) Jakel, Tiffany (Mike) Jakel, Blake Jakel, Alesha (Rob) Ronat, Alexi (Phil) Marti, Nicole (Chris) Ramsey, Brody Jakel, Kaitlin Jakel, Timothy Jakel, Tara Zobrist, Johnny Kleinhoffer, Megan Jakel, Andrew Jakel, Victoria Jakel, Tristan Stearns, Harper Jakel, Tami Jakel, Chad (CJ) Jakel, Danielle (Steve) Penz, Michael Brinkman, Anna (Eric) Woodside, Grace Brinkman, Jason (Brandi) Zappia, and Jared (Crissi) Zappia; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Mackenzie Davis, Jayden and Alex Head, Javien and Abram Crotchett, Katelyn Marti, Griffin and Kyleigh Haller, Wayde Quitmeyer, Braden and Zackary Ramsey, Ashton and Reese Zobrist, Camden Jakel, Nevaeh Brown, Clarke and Callen Jakel, Vivenne and Theo Penz, Deacon and Dannen Woodside, Alli and Bella Zappia, Ryder Zappia, and two more on the way.
She was also preceded in death by her mother, who died on Sept. 15, 1978; and her father, who died on Aug. 28, 1968.
