Gloria Marie Henschen, 84, of Alhambra died on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at Life Care Hospital in Plano, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11 and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Jerry Amiri, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Spangle Cemetery near Livingston.

She was born on March 9, 1931 in Carlinville to Roy and Carrie (Taylor) Kulenkamp. On March 12, 1949, she married Eugene “Gene” Philippi. He passed away on July 16, 1981. On March 17, 1987, she married Norman L. Henschen. He passed away Jan. 12, 2012.

Mrs. Henschen grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Gillespie High School in 1948. She had worked at the Marine Garment Factory. She became a beautician and owned and operated Gloria’s Beauty Shop in Alhambra for many years. She loved her business and her clients, making sure everyone’s hair looked perfect and sending them away feeling better about themselves.

She was always happy and was very family oriented. She enjoyed planning family reunions and lived to spend time with her family. She also enjoyed quilting and traveling.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra and the Women’s Guild of the church. She was also a member of Alhambra Community Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Richard (Cathy) Philippi of Roanoke, Texas; a step-daughter, Carol Ann (Larry) Lacey of Alhambra; and step-son, Lawrence N. (Judy) Henschen of Alhambra; grandchildren, Ricky Philippi (fiancee Ashley Spralding) of Fort Worth, Texas; a grandchild, Rebecca (Andy) Apetz of Yuma, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Rylee and Austin Apetz; step-grandchildren, Jill L. (Brian) Verson, Brett L. (Jennifer) Henschen and Greg L. Lacey; step-great-grandchildren, Tyler Verson, Cameron Verson, Jayden Henschen and Averi Henschen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ralph Kulenkamp and Carl “Pete” Kulenkamp; and sisters, Bertie Hammann and Eleanore Reiniesch.

Memorials may be made to Salem United Church of Christ.
