Philip G. Dennison, 72, of Highland died on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.

A funeral service was held on Friday, Dec. 11 at First Baptist Church in Highland, with the Rev. Sean Holloway, pastor, officiating. Arrangements were handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Burial was in McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo., to Forest and Lela M. (Peaker) Dennison. On Dec. 29, 1962, he married Frances I. “Frankie” Rice. She survives in Highland.

Mr. Dennison graduated as the valedictorian of Livingston High School in 1961. He worked as a printer and vice president for Compton and Sons in St. Louis, Mo., and then for Hart Printing in St. Louis, until his retirement. He was a member of Printers Union in St. Louis and was in the industry for more than 40 years.

In his retirement, he worked for his daughter’s family-owned business, Farmers Restaurant & Bakery in Highland. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Other survivors include daughters, Vicky L. (Samson) Sparks of Dorsey, Karen S. (Stephen) Edwards of Pocahontas and Mary E. (Robert Sr.) Hamm of Highland; a son, Philip G. (Patti) Dennison Jr. of Edwardsville; grandchildren, James E. (Holly) O’Brian of Colorado, Stephanie I. (Tyler) Smith of West New Jersey, N.Y., Haley L. Sparks of Dorsey, Amber L (Nick) Spaeth of Belleville, Angela N. (Brennon) Scott of Wichita, Kan., Alyssa G. (significant other Eric Maroney) Edwards of St. Louis, Mo., Robert W. (fiancee Natalie Gutzler) Hamm Jr. of Collinsville, Sarah M. (significant other David Giger) Hamm of Troy and Madelyn Dennison of Chicago; step-grandchildren, Tyler D. (Karen) Sparks of St. Louis, Mo., Brittany A. Sparks of Granite City, Sable K. (Bryce) Sward of Florida and Samantha A. (Danny) Weist of Carbondale; step-great-grandchildren, Madison N. Sparks and Trevor K. Sparks; an anticipated great-grandchild, Angela’s daughter, Nevaeh N. Scott, who is due any day; and a half-brother, Kevin Stewart of Staunton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Forest Dennison.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
