Roy Meyer, 87
Roy E. Meyer, 87, of Pocahontas died on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015 at Alhambra Care Center in Alhambra.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Jamestown. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Jamestown, with the Rev. Don W. Propeck, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Jamestown Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
He was born on Aug. 17, 1928 at the family home in Nashville, Ill., to Christ and Emma (Borderwisch) Meyer. On April 25, 1954, he married June C. Mewes. She survives in Pocahontas.
At at age 2, Mr. Meyer’s family moved to the Stolletown area of Clinton County. He had also lived in Mascoutah and Trenton, north of Campground Church Road in Bond County, and south of Pocahontas, as of October 1987.
He worked for Greenville Service Co. (FS) from 1965 to 1985. He was a former member of the Midwestern Teamsters
He loved his grandchildren, the outdoors, gardening, repairing and fixing things. He enjoyed country and gospel music and visiting with friends. He liked to paint things — always red, white and yellow.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Jamestown and the Men’s Brotherhood at the church.
Other survivors include a daughter, Susan M. (Alan) Simmonds of Millersburg; grandchildren, Amanda R. (Joe) Gonzalez of Millersburg and Christian W. (fiancee Lindsey Weiss) Simmonds of Millersburg; great-grandchildren, Riley J. Gonzalez of Millersburg and Lukas J. Simmonds of Greenville; and a sister, Viola Brinkmann of Carlyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Rudy Meyer and Robert Meyer.
