Garrett James Byrnes, 78, of St. Jacob on passed away on Dec. 18, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21 at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home in St. Jacob. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21 at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home in St. Jacob, with the Rev. Douglas Seagle officiating. Burial will be in Keystone Cemetery in St. Jacob.

He was born Aug. 28, 1937 in Detroit, Mich., to Garrett and Florence, (Painter) Byrnes.

Mr. Byrnes retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. He attended the United Church of Christ, and was a Boy Scout troop leader for many years. He loved bowling, hunting and fishing, but most of all, he loved the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas Byrnes; and sons-in-law, Bob Koch and Donald Schumacher.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl J. Byrnes (nee Meyer) of St. Jacob; children, Tim Byrnes of Highland, Jean Koch of Greenville and Janet (Lee) Schumacher Hackle of Leavenworth, Kan.; grandchildren, Chad Koch, Karla (Derek) Meskil, Andrew (Beth Henry) Koch, Darren Koch, Aaron (Jessica) Schumacher and Evan Schumacher; and great-grandchildren, Carson Talleur, Payton Meskil, Barrett Meskil, Robert Koch and Jacob Koch.

Memorials may be made to Keystone Cemetery or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
