Vincent J. Jakel, 90, of Highland died on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21 and from 8to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m on Friday, Jan. 22 St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Pat Jakel, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.

He was born on Aug. 20, 1925 to John and Mary (Pfister) Jakel at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. On Nov. 15, 1947, he married Betty Jane Wagner at St. Paul Church in Highland. She passed away in 2007.

Mr. Jakel played baseball when he was young and continued after high school with the Millersburg Wolves. He coached Khoury League baseball from 1957-1970 and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He liked to play euchre and pinochle, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, the Knights of Columbus and the Optimist Club.

He is survived by a son, Terry (Susan) Jakel of Highland; a niece, Betty Jean Kombrink of Pierron; a nephew, Junior (Betty Mae) Haberer of Pierron; several other nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and -nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; sons, Dennis Jakel, who died in 1969,) and Keith Jakel, who died in 2012; and sisters, Sylvia Haberer Kleber and Gladys Schwierjohn.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Educational Foundation.
