Joan K. Schauster, 86, of Highland died on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 at Faith Care Center in Highland.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father David L. Peters, retired pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.

She was born on March 7, 1929 in Highland to Edgar and Blanche (Jacobs) Hoffman. On Oct. 2, 1948, she married John Leroy Schauster. He passed away on May 30, 2005.

Mrs. Schauster graduated from St. Paul High School in 1947. She attended Brown’s Business College. She was very active with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sport and academic activities. She had a life-long hobby with her husband of antiquing. She also had been active with the Perpetual Adoration at St. Joseph’s Hospital since its start.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was also a former member of the Daughters of Isabella Sacred Heart Chapter 237 in Highland.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia J. Weiss of Pocahontas; sons, John L. (Michele) Schauster Jr. of Highland and Mark J. (Barbara) Schauster of Highland; grandchildren, Christopher D. (Nicole) Ramsey of Highland, Jacqueline B. (Buck) Mayfield of Greenville, Benjamin J. (Coreen) Schauster of Festus, Mo., Erin E. (husband Pat Ferrucci) Schauster of Boulder, Colo., Annie B. Schauster of Arvada, Colo., and Trent J. (Caitlin) Schauster of Highland; great-grandchildren, Air Force Nation Guard Airman 1st Class Joseph W. Schatte of Scott Air Force Base, Noah B. Mayfield of Greenville, Zachary C. Ramsey of Highland, Brayden C. Ramsey of Highland Griffen Haller of Highland, Leigha M. Schauster of Festus, Mo., Kyleigh Haller of Highland, Wade Quitmeyer of Highland, Ashlynne B. Schauster of Festus, Mo., Madeline R. Schauster of Festus, Mo., Landon J. Schauster of Highland, and an anticipated Schauster great-grandson, who is due in two weeks; a sister-in-law, Lola Kelley of St. Jacob; and brothers-in-law, Alfred “Jess” Jansen of Highland and Robert Schauster of Meza, Ariz.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Matthew Schauster, who died on Aug. 16, 1983; brothers, Gerald Hoffman, who died as an infant in 1926, and Russell D. Hoffman, who diedon Nov. 21, 2011; and a son-in-law, Mark S. Weiss, who died on Nov. 23, 2013.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul School Educational Foundation.
