Viola Herrington, 93

Viola “Chub” Herrington, 93, of Troy died on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Richeson Funeral Home in Troy. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dennis Price officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Glen Carbon.

She was born on July 25, 1922 in Marine to George and Hilda (Busse) Feldmeier. On Nov. 21, 1942, she married Murill Herrington in Troy. He passed away on Jan. 23, 1995.

Mrs. Herrington was a graduate of the class of 1940 at McCray-Dewey High School and was very proud of being the oldest living attendee at the last class reunion.

She retired in 1984 from Triad School District, where she had been a bus driver for many years.

She was a faithful member of Troy United Methodist Church and long-time resident of Troy. She was a member of the UMW and volunteered many hours at church. She also had been active in the PTA, TOPS, Women of the Moose, and Boy Scouts.

Mrs. Herrington was a proud member of the Madison County Republican Committee and was honored to receive the Eleanor Schulte award for outstanding service to the Republican Party.

She and her husband loved to travel, going to World War II Navy reunions, and then wintering many years in Arizona. She enjoyed collecting jewelry and helping her son with the giant slide at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. She loved her children and grandchildren but was most proud when she was blessed with her first great-grandchild.

Surviving are her children, Dennis Herrington of Troy and Dawn (Frank) Stillwagon of Troy; grandchildren, Heidi, Gordon and Hanna Stillwagon, Jill (Joe) Herrington-Bilyk and Dr. Kelly Herrington; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Bilyk.

She was also preceded in death by parents.

Memorials may be made to Oak Lawn Cemetery in Glen Carbon.
