Charles C. “Chuck” Layne, 49, of Trenton died on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22 at First United Methodist Church in Trenton. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22 at First United Methodist Church in Trenton, with the Rev. Mike Rucker officiating. Moss Funeral Home in Trenton is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1966 in Roswell, N.M., to Ambrose “Lloyd” and Billie (Williamson) Layne. On June 24, 1989, he married Jody Harried at the First United Methodist Church in Trenton. She survives in Trenton.
Mr. Layne was the co-owner of Layne Contracting and formerly worked at H&L Builders and in maintenance at St. Paul Church and School in Highland. He also was an auto mechanic and was the mechanic for Wesclin Schools.
He loved to barbeque and spend time with family and friends. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping, watching cartoons, antiques, classic cars, and was a huge fan of the band, Rush. In addition, he liked drinking Ski soda and eating, especially at Wally’s. He also liked bacon, chocolate, and anything he could cook on his collection of cast iron cookware.
Other survivors include his mother, who lives in Trenton; his children, William Layne (friend Amy) of Belleville and Brooke Layne of Godfrey; a brother, Robert (Jackie) Layne of St. Peters, Mo; his twin sister, Charlene “Char” Taylor (friend Matt) of Florence, Colo.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Doug and Sharon Harried of Trenton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Greg (Sharon) Harried of Las Vegas, Nev., Brenda (Luke) Luensman of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Sherry (Matt) Law of Belleville; and 14 nieces and nephews.
