Joel R. Randol, 88, of Highland died on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at Highland Health Care Center in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and from 12:30 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Mississippi Baptist Church in Bardwell, Ky. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Thursday at the church, with Brother Mark Burnett, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mississippi Baptist Cemetery in Bardwell, Ky.
He was born on May 30, 1927 in Gary, Ind., to Joel and Eda (Johnson) Randol. On June 1, 1948, he married Katie L. Hite. She passed away on July 8, 2010.
Mr. Randol grew up Gary, Ind., in Lake County, until he and his parents moved to Bardwell, Ky., when he was a teenager.

After marriage, he and his wife moved to East St. Louis. He worked for Walworth Valve Co., in East St. Louis, for 14 years as a machinist. He later worked for Hunter Packing Co., also in East St. Louis.
He and his wife moved to Troy, where they lived for 23 years. He retired from Cooper B-Line in Highland. After retirement, they moved to Bardwell, Ky., for 15 years; then to Highland in 2005, to be closer to their daughter.
Mr. Randol enjoyed traveling to Florida, fixing things and time with family and friends.
He was a member of Bardwell Baptist Church in Bardwell, Ky., and he attended Highland Community Church in Highland.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn D. (John V.) Schmitt of Highland; grandchildren, John R. (fiancée Amanda Miller) Schmitt of Caseyville, Jennifer K. (Brett) Droy of Moore, Okla., and Julia R. (Ian) Lackey of Highland; and great-grandchildren, John R. Schmitt Jr., Seth A. Schmitt, Taylor K. Droy, Trent R. Droy, Kaylee G. Droy, Britney L. Lackey and Brooklynn M. Lackey.
He was also preceded in death by his father, who died on Nov. 9, 1976, and his mother, who died on June 27, 1995.
