Helen Vaughn, 83, of Pocahontas died on Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12 at Meridith Funeral Home in Pocahontas. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Saturday at the funeral home, with Father Scott Snider, pastor of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Pocahontas, officiating. Burial will be in Robinson Cemetery in Pocahontas.
She was born on Sept. 21, 1932 in Alexander County, Ill., to Harvey and Sylvia (Heilig) Dickerson.
Mrs. Vaughn was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and visited with the people. She enjoyed camping, gardening, playing cards, polka dancing, embroidering, and loved hummingbirds. But most of all she, treasured spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Richard) Mueller of Pocahontas; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Brian) Wesselmann; great-grandchildren, Emily, Zach and Maddie; sisters, Thelma Payne and Dorothy Franks; and multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Vaughn, who died on Feb. 26, 2016; brothers, Jake Dickerson, Gerald Jernigan, Sherman Jernigan, and Clinton Dickerson, who died in infancy; and a sister, Mary Potts.
