William R. “Bill” Reilson, 81, of Alhambra died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 13 and from 8 to 10 a.m. on Monday, March 14 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 14 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, with the Rev. Philip H. Kershner, pastor of United Church of Christ of Marine, officiating. Burial will be in Marine Cemetery.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1934 in Highland to William N. and Lucille A. (Smith) Reilson. On Feb. 20, 1954, he married Marion L. Guentensberger. She survives in Alhambra.
Mr. Reilson grew up on the family farm north of Marine. He graduated from Highland High School in 1953. After high school, he farmed south of Marine, raising beef cattle and grain. He moved to Alhambra in 1979 and continued to raise cattle and farm grain. He also worked as a laborer out of Local 397 in Edwardsville. He retired 2000 and moved northwest of Marine.
In his retirement, he worked for Madison Service Co., as a tender truck driver for 10 years. He enjoyed traveling to the Western states; his favorite destination was Yellowstone National Park. He and his wife spent winter months in the Valley of Texas. He loved old Western movies and was a big NASCAR fan. He enjoyed reading history and Western books.
He was a member of United Church of Christ of Marine, Madison County Farm Bureau, and Labor Local 397 in Edwardsville.
Other survivors include sons, Michael W. (Shari) Reilson of Trevor, Wis., Brad E. (Kay) Reilson of Marine and Scott R. (Laura) Reilson of St. Jacob; a son-in-law, Anthony J. “Tony” Italiano of Highland; grandchildren, Jennifer G. Reilson of Fredericktown, Mo., Jared S. (Amanda) Reilson of St. Jacob, Maria C. (Danny) Ramsey of Highland, Sara E. Reilson of Kenosha, Wis., Amy N. Reilson of Trevor, Wis., Ryan W. Reilson of Omaha, Neb., and Nicholas A. Italiano of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Bryn M. Reilson of St. Jacob, Claire O. Reilson of St. Jacob and Rilyn E. Ramsey of Highland; a brother, Roger R. (Janelle) Reilson of Alhambra; and a sister, Jean (Orville, Jr.) Wildhaber of Litchfield.
He was preceded in death by his father, who died on Jan. 16, 1982; his mother, who died on Jan. 14, 2005; a daughter, Patricia A. Italiano, who died on Sept. 19, 2014; and a grandchild, Erin Marie Reilson, who died on Oct. 13, 2000, at age 16.
