Gloria G. Tanner, 73, of Highland died on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Zion Cemetery in Independence, Miss. Meridith Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on July 15, 1942 in Coldwater, Miss., to Herbert and Virgie (Brown) Perkins. On May 5, 1956, she married Frank Tanner in Holly Spring, Miss. They enjoyed 59 years together, and he survives in Highland.

Mrs. Tanner loved being around her family and lived for a time with her grandson. She was very understanding and forgiving, never holding a grudge. She was outgoing, funny and strongly opinionated, but was happiest when people around her were happy. She was an avid reader and volunteered as an election judge anytime she could. She supported the Humane Society, ASPCA and Oceanographic Society.

She is also survived by a son, David (special friend Faith Eck) Tanner of Highland; a grandson, Joshua Tanner; a sister, Diane Ewing of Bristol, Tenn.; a brother, Jimmy (Ann) Perkins of Memphis, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers and sisters, Horace Perkins, Morris Perkins, Norris Perkins, Eldon Perkins, Michael Perkins, Cynthia Lawson, Helen Richardson and Maxine “Shorty” Childress.
