Memorial Day biathlon in Highland will have new route

The Highland Lions Club will be holding its annual Biathlon and 5-Mile Run on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, starting at 8 a.m.

For 36 years, the Lions Club has hosted the event. This year’s race is expecting more than 400 participants.

The Biathlon will start at Lindendale Park and include a 5-mile run and a 20-mile biking portion, which can be entered by individuals and two-person teams.

But for those who don’t want to do the entire Biathlon event, there will also be a 5-mile run and the Family 2K Fun Run.

Glik’s is once again the title sponsor, and Scott Credit Union is the timing sponsor. Scott Credit Union will also present awards to the top finishers.

New to this year’s event, will be 20-mile bike portion for the biathlon. In year’s past, there was a 15-mile bike portion in the biathlon.

“The new bike route distance is more in line with other area biathlons and will give riders a glimpse of some of the best that Highland has to offer including our beautiful new hospital, Korte Rec Center, Glik Park and the newly completed Veterans Memorial Parkway,” said race director Ryan Goodwin.
