Highland Speedway hosted the “Mr. Joe” Schmitt Memorial on Aug. 11. The night showcased the Midwest Big 10 series.
Fairview Heights’ Daryl Klein won the race. He was followed by Jose Parga of New Berlin and Chad Zobrist of Highland. Track points leader Shannon Kuhn was caught up in an opening-lap crash that will likely shuffle the standings ahead of next week’s season championship night.
The Steve Schmitt Modified feature saw “The Racin’ Realtor” Chad Sellers of Breese pick up his first win of the season, besting Tyler Diebert of Highland and points leader Shaun Horstman of Highland.
Michael Ripperda Jr. won the Miller Lite B-Modified feature, topping Nate Schmitt of Summerfield and Billy Knebel of Pocahontas.
The winner of the Woodcrest Small Engine Street Stock feature was former track champion Eric Harris of St. Jacob. He beat points leader Trevor Issak of Highland and Eric Harris.
The Lester Robertson Memorial season Championship Night is next Saturday, Aug. 18. After taking a couple of weeks off, the season will wrap up with special events on Sept. 8 and 15.
