Swimming: Highland Splash skewers Kings Point Stingrays
The Highland Splash summer swim team stung the host Kings Point Stingrays on Tuesday of last week by the lopsided final score of 389 to 184 on Tuesday night of last week.
The win was the second in three meets this season for the Splash (2-1), whose meet scheduled for last Thursday at Trenton was canceled due to inclement weather.
Against Kings Point, Highland thoroughly dominated each and every stroke throughout the meet.
The Splash captured first place in three of the four meet-opening medley relays before going on to conquer nine of the 10 freestyle events, eight of the 10 breaststroke races, six of the eight individual medley competitions, nine of the 10 backstroke events, eight of the 10 butterfly races and closing the meet out by claiming eight of the 10 freestyle relays.
Highland featured six different swimmers who swept all three of their individual competitions in their respective age groups. The half dozen Splash swimmers who won all three of their individual races were:
▪ Ben Thomae, who garnered gold in the boys 15-18 100-meter individual medley (59.76), 100-meter backstroke (59.43) and the 50-meter butterfly (26.33).
▪ Victoria Thomae, who swam to victories in the girls 15-18 100-meter freestyle (58.54), the 100-meter breaststroke (1:12.88) and the 100-meter individual medley (1:05.74).
▪ Trey Stephens, who touched the wall to win the boys 13-14 100-meter breaststroke (1:17.66), the 100-meter backstroke (1:11.56) and the 50-meter butterfly (27.81).
▪ Ben Walter, who was the fastest in the boys 11-12 50-meter freestyle (39.06), the 50-meter backstroke (35.25) and the 50-meter butterfly (34.47).
▪ Anna Henke, who was triumphant in the girls 8-Under 25-meter freestyle (17.59), the 25-meter breaststroke (22.28) and the 25-meter butterfly (23.44).
▪ Sean McGinley, who was victorious in the boys 8-Under 25-meter freestyle (19.15), the 25-meter backstroke (22.56) and the 25-meter butterfly (22.16).
The following is the complete results of the point scorers or those who placed in the top three in each event for the Highland Splash against the Kingspoint Dolphins:
Highland 389, Kings Point 184

(All distances are competed in meters. There are three swimmers in total from both teams combined who score in each individual event, so one team is allowed to score its top two swimmers in any one individual event. Therefore, each team is guaranteed to score at least one point in each and every individual event. This does not include the meet-opening medley relays or the meet-ending freestyle relays, in which only the winning team scores seven points.)
