Dance: Highland pulls off clean sweep at Althoff
The Highland High School varsity dance team had a banner day after pulling off a clean sweep at the Illinois Drill Team Association (IDTA) Althoff Regional Competition Saturday at Althoff High School.
The Lady Bulldogs captured first place with all four of their routines, including qualifying all three of their IDTA routines — Pom Dance, Jazz and Hip Hop — for the IDTA State Finals to be held Feb. 13 at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield.
Additionally, Highland, which also won first place in the IHSA category, received the highest overall score of the day with its pom dance routine.
“This was an exciting day for the HHS varsity dance team,” Highland coach Michelle Deets said. “For the first time in the history of the dance team program, all three IDTA routines qualified for the IDTA State contest. This has never happened at the first contest we have attended. Our choreography this year is outstanding, and it is being executed and performed by an equally outstanding group of young ladies.”
The HHS varsity dance team, which is coached by Deets as well as Emily Wellen and will next compete on Jan. 2 at the IDTA Belleville East Regional Competition, is composed of Ally Becker, Kayla Davis, Leslie Drueke, Katie Etter, Paige Foster, Olivia Genteman, Lexy Hagler, Kelsey Lane, Hannah Luitjohan, Raven Miranda, Claire Pabst, Abigail Rogier, McKenzie Rosen, Reagan Thornton and Brooke Wilson.
