O’Fallon staff, family health fair

The City of O’Fallon is hosting its fifth annual employee and family health fair from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28 at the Regency Conference Center located at 400 Regency Park Drive. K of C Fish Fry

The O’Fallon Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary continue to sponsor a weekly fish fry with lunch available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and for dinner from 4-8 p.m every Friday at the K of C Hall, located at 402 E. Trunk or Treat at SWIC

The Southwestern Illinois College is hosting a trunk-or-treat event for children to enjoy trick-or-treating and fun activities in a safe environment at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28 in the Belleville campus M3/M4 parking lot at 2500 Carlyle Ave. There will be plenty of treats and SWIC’s Culinary Arts Club will serve dinner too. The event is presented by the Student Veterans Association and the College Activities Board and is free and open to the public. Food sale proceeds will benefit the Culinary Arts Club. Halloween 5K fun run

The Lewis & Clark Habitat For Humanity O’Fallon chapter is hosting its second annual Ghosts, Goblins & Ghouls Spooktacular 5K fun run event at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Amelia Carriel Junior High School. The route will begin and end at the school located at 451 N. Seven Hills Rd. The festivities of the day do not end with the run, as pancakes will be served at the finish line, donated by The Egg and I. The day will also include drawings for a custom-built 6x6 children’s playhouse that has real windows and screens, and later in the day, the 2016 Chevy Silverado truck from Jack Schmitt Chevrolet. The O’Fallon Rotary Club is hosting its annual Children’s Halloween parade beginning at noon, Saturday. Line up and judging starts at noon, and the parade starts at 12:30 p.m. Also if tickets were purchased for the truck raffle, the ticket will be pulled this day. Tickets are still available. The City of O’Fallon police, fire and emergency medical services departments will be hosting two ‘safe stops’ for trick-or-treaters Monday, Oct. 31. The first is from 6-8:30 p.m. at Firehouse No. 1, 106 E. Washington St.; the second is from 5-7:30 p.m. at Central School, 309 Hartman Lane. Come join the O’Fallon Garden Club at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1 for its monthly meeting at Rock Springs Park cabin located at 1428 E. Third St. The club meets the first Tuesday of every month. OTHS Veteran’s reception

A Veterans Reception will be held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6 at the O’Fallon Township High School Milburn School campus cafeteria at 650 Milburn School Rd., to honor those veterans who participated in this year’s Living History Project. The students in Kristin Strubhart’s history and broadcast classes interviewed the veterans in October, and are in the process of editing the videos. These videos will be donated to the Library of Congress. A 4-minute clip of each veteran’s interview will be shown at the reception, and the veterans will be presented with certificates. The OTHS JROTC cadets will serve as Honor Guards. The O’Fallon Historical Society is setting up a booth of artifacts and is helping to sponsor the project. The Cahokia Mound Chapter, Daughter’s of the American Revolution will serve refreshments. This year the Scott Air Force Band will open the festivities. The event is open to the public. The O’Fallon Public Safety Department’s Emergency Medical Services will be offering a free pediatric seminar designed for anyone in the medical field, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Katy Cavins Community Center located at 308 Fifth St. The seminar will cover topics such as: autism for emergency care providers; pediatric epilepsy; pediatric disaster medicine; respiratory illness in children; gun violence; and traumatic teen years. SWIC job fair

Southwestern Illinois College is hosting a fall job fair from 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Belleville campus varsity gym located at 2500 Carlyle Ave. All job seekers are welcome and should arrive dressed to impress with plenty of copies of their resumés. The job fair is open to the public. Certain companies and service organizations will be focused on opportunities for veterans. For more than 30 years the Sgt. Charles A. Fricke VFW Post 805 and the Post 805 Auxiliary have hosted O’Fallon’s annual Veteran’s Day parade. This year it is slated to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. Parade line up is at 12:30 p.m. at the O’Fallon Community Park on the corner of Fifth and Park Streets at the Katy Cavins Community Center. Veterans’ Monument Program

The City of O’Fallon will hold its annual Veterans Day program at 10:40 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11 with patriotic music selections to begin. The ceremony will commence at 11 a.m. The event is held at the Veterans’ Monument Park at 737 E. Wesley Drive in O’Fallon. The guest speaker will be United States Air Force Brigadier General Steven J. Berryhill, deputy director of U.S. Transcom Operations and Plans. The names of 29 newly inscribed veterans will be introduced at this time. All veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and decorations that day.
