Looking Glass Prairie Chapter honors Vietnam vets
The Looking Glass Prairie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in O’Fallon held a 50-year Vietnam War commemoration event on Nov. 16 at the Aviston American Legion Hall.
Each Vietnam veteran received a certificate from the DAR saying, “Thank you for your service,” and a lapel pin designed for Vietnam veterans. All the men who received the recognition were members of Clinton Country Vietnam Veterans Chapter 269.
A trio consisting of Rhonda Tempia, Scott Larsen and Barb Cramer sang “God Bless America” and “The Hero, Procession of the Patriots” during the event.
The keynote speaker was Rick Hargrove. Terry Conrad gave a presentation, “Salute to the Flag.”
Aviston Mayor Dale Haukap also signed a proclamation for the Vietnam veterans.
Members of the Looking Glass Prairie DAR Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Committee are Linda Hangsleben, committee chair; Rhonda Leach, committee coordinator; Gail Jurgensmeyer, decorations; April Spruell, correspondence; and Suzie Haas, program.
