Around Town: St. Clare School to have pancake breakfast


St. Clair County Genealogical Society meeting: The St. Clair County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 at St. Luke’s Parish Hall, 226 N. Church St. in Belleville. Diane Walsh will present part two of “Navigating the SCCGS Website,” with tips and tricks for the member portion of the society’s site. Written suggestions for improving the website are welcome. Garden Club Glow Bingo: The O’Fallon Garden Club is hosting a “Glow Bingo” on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Katy Cavins Community Center, 308 E. 5th St. in O’Fallon. Cost is $20 per person in advance, or $25 at door, and includes a pack of six bingo cards per round, as well as a glow dabber and hat. Advance tickets can be purchased at the O’Fallon Parks & Recreation Department by calling 618-624-028 or go online at ofallonparksandrec.com/product/glow-bingo. More than $1,000 in prizes will be awarded. There will also be a 50-50 drawing, huge silent auction and big raffle items, including wheelbarrow of booze. There will be a cash bar with beer, wine and soda. There will also be Chick-fil-A sandwiches and snacks for sale, or you can bring your own snacks. You must be 18 to attend. If you wish to donate. Proceeds benefit the O’Fallon Garden Club Education Pavilion. The club is also looking for sponsors for each round of bingo. The sponsorship would need to be a $100 monetary donation (cash or check), and they will be announced as the round sponsor and have their name printed on the round sheets given to each participant. St. Clare School pancake breakfast: St. Clare School, 214 W. Third St. in O’Fallon, will wrap up Catholic Schools Week with a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Feb. 4, in the school cafeteria and gym. Everyone is invited to attend the breakfast, which is hosted by St. Clare Parents and Friends. Tickets will be available at the door. O’Fallon Garden Club meeting: The O’Fallon Garden Club will meet Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Rock Springs Park, 1428 E. 3rd St. in O’Fallon. Social hour starts at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. The program will be by Steve Grider, owner of The Tiny Acre. The Tiny Acre raises a variety of vegetables and fruits on small, donated urban plots in O’Fallon. Their aim is to provide the highest quality, freshness, and flavor in produce by paying close attention to soil management, seed selection, and utilizing biologically intensive cropping systems. Through their Community Supported Agriculture program, they hope to build community by encouraging member involvement in the farm. They offer hands-on learning about seasonal and fresh food, fostering an interest in home-made meals, and supporting a locally based food system sow heirloom seeds to ensure the historic preservation of fruits and vegetables. Blood drive in Shiloh: The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 6 at Memorial Hospital East, 1404 Cross St. in Shiloh. Xi Chi meeting: Xi Chi Chapter 5456 of ESA International will hold its meeting Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights.


Metro-East Pachyderm Club meeting: The Metro-East Pachyderm Club will meet at noon Feb. 9 at Bella Milano, 455 Regency Park in O’Fallon. Speakers will be Tanya Hildebrand, 57th Illinois Senate District candidate, and Rep. Charlie Meier, 108th Illinois House District candidate. Arrive by 11:30 to socialize and meet the candidates. Lunch and presentations by the speakers will begin at noon. You do not need to be a Pachyderm member to attend.

RSVP deadline for O’Fallon Township Senior Committee: The O’Fallon Township Senior Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 at the township building, 801 E. State St. in O’Fallon, for dinner and entertainment. The event is for O’Fallon Township residents only. Cost is $3. Tickets can be purchased at the township office. The last day to purchase a ticket is Feb. 9.


St. Michael’s pancake/waffle day: St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 111 O’Fallon Troy Road in O’Fallon, will have its 11th annual “Pancake, Waffle and Sausage Day” from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. The all-you-can eat meal is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-12, and kids 3 and under eat free. Carry-outs will be available. The event is open to the public, and the church is handicapped accessible. There will also be a 50-50 drawing and basket raffle.


“Bowl-A-Thon” to benefit St. Jude’s: Xi Chi Chapter 5456 of ESA International will hold a “Bowl-A-Thon” fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Feb. 24 at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights.
