O’Fallon girls basketball team knocks off Edwardsville in sectional semifinals
The O’Fallon Township High School girls basketball team notched a monster win Monday night, rallying past Edwardsville 61-58 in an IHSA Class 4A sectional semifinal game at Belleville West.
The Panthers trailed 43-38 heading into the final quarter but erupted for 25 points while outscoring the Tigers 25-15 to post the victory. In the process, OTHS ended a 35-game losing streak to Edwardsville while reaching its first-ever sectional final.
O’Fallon will play for the sectional crown at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pekin High School against either Joliet West or Lincoln Way West.
O’Fallon — which lost to Edwardsville 61-47 and 68-65 earlier this season — improved to 28-5. The Tigers finished their campaign at 27-2.
Kayla Gordon led four Panthers in double figures with 21 points. Amelia Belle, Shannon Dowell and Tyana Lovelace each posted 10 points
In previous postseason action, Nick Knolhoff’s O’Fallon club defeated Granite City (57-20) and Belleville West (53-47) to capture the Alton Regional.
