▪ National Alliance on Mental Illness Southwestern Illinois (NAMI SWI) — 7-8:30 p.m. Online via Zoom. Virtual support meetings for family members and other caregivers of individuals with mental illness. Meetings are peer-led and rely on the knowledge and experiences of the group to help one another. ▪ O’Fallon Garden Club 2021-2022 Scholarship — Now through Tuesday, March 1. Online at ofallongardenclub.org. The O’Fallon Garden Club is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 scholarship. Applications must be residents of O’Fallon or Shiloh, or are currently attending or have graduated from O’Fallon Township High School. The application deadline is March 1. ▪ Memorial Auxiliary Hospital is accepting books, sheet music, DVDs, CDs and cookbooks for their 2022 Book Bazaar. Books are accepted 8-11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through Thursday, March 17, and 8-11 a.m. on the the first and third Saturdays of the month through March 17. Books need to be dropped off at the Auxiliary warehouse at the Annex, located on the southeast corner behind the hospital.

▪ ‘Marriage and Annulment in the Catholic Church’ — 6:30 p.m. St. Claire of Assisi Catholic Church, 1411 Cross St., O’Fallon. A free presentation for people seeking to learn more about marriage and annulment. Matthew Flynn, director of Adult Faith Formation and Mission, will discuss the Catholic Church’s definition of marriage and the difference between a divorce and an annulment. This session is good for people of all ages, especially those who hope to get married some day. It also covers what is involved in the annulment process in the Catholic Church and how an annulment can bring great healing. The public is invited to attend. Seating will be socially distanced, and all attendees must wear a mask. 2 additional officers join OPD
On Monday, Jan. 10, the O’Fallon Police Department hired two more police officers.
Officer Michael Shewmaker received his oath of office from Commissioner Scott Battoe. Shewmaker initially began his career with the O’Fallon Police Department in 2019 as a telecommunicator and is a graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Officer Hayden Schaefer received his oath of office from commissioner Susan Holden. He is a recent graduate of McKendree University.
Both officers will attend the police academy at Southwestern Illinois College prior to beginning their Field Training Program.
