St. Clair County Genealogical Society — 7 p.m. Online via Zoom. Annual meeting for election of officers for 2023-2024 term. Program: “Hassloch Emigrants to Mascoutah and St. Clair County Environs.” More than 40 families came to Mascoutah from Hassloch, Germany, some as early as the 1830s. Others followed, settling in the fertile land of St. Clair and contiguous counties. Presented by Christine Smith, a native of Hassloch, and David Braswell, German language instructor, historian, and manager of Corner George Inn in Maeystown. O’Fallon Veterans Monument Veterans Day Event — 11 a.m. First Baptist Church, 111 E. Highway 50, O’Fallon. The City of O’Fallon will hold a Veterans Day observance. The guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. Vincent Barker, USA, chief of staff, USTRANSCOM. There will be participation from Robert C. Cummings, Col. (ret.), USAF; the OTHS AFJ ROTC; and Miss O’Fallon Natalie Hale, in addition to others. The names of the newly-inscribed veterans will be introduced at this time. Pre-service music will begin at 10:45 a.m.. Veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and decorations that day.

Southern Illinois Builders Association Scholarship Application — Deadline: Friday, Nov. 4. The Southern Illinois Builders Association is accepting applications for scholarships with the following requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a degree in the field of construction management/construction related engineering/architecture;

  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0/4.0;

  • Submit a personal recommendation from person unrelated to the applicant;

  • Planning to enroll as a full-time student and maintain full-time student status (12 hours minimum) — part-time students working full-time in the construction industry will be awarded partial awards (written verification from full-time employer required);

  • Show evidence applicant is related to an individual employed full-time by an SIBA member firm for at least four years (written evidence required);

  • A typewritten report of at least 500 words on career goals and events experienced that made them decide to pursue a career in the construction industry. Essay quality will be judged.
