▪ St. Clair County Genealogical Society — 7 p.m. Online via Zoom. Annual meeting for election of officers for 2023-2024 term. Program: “Hassloch Emigrants to Mascoutah and St. Clair County Environs.” More than 40 families came to Mascoutah from Hassloch, Germany, some as early as the 1830s. Others followed, settling in the fertile land of St. Clair and contiguous counties. Presented by Christine Smith, a native of Hassloch, and David Braswell, German language instructor, historian, and manager of Corner George Inn in Maeystown. Steve Burns is an American actor and television host best known as the original host of the long-running children’s preschool television program “Blue’s Clues” from 1996 until 2002. ▪ Veterans Monument Veterans Day Event — 11 a.m. First Baptist Church, 111 E. Highway 50, O’Fallon. The City of O’Fallon will hold a Veterans Day observance. The guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. Vincent Barker, USA, chief of staff, USTRANSCOM. There will be participation from Robert C. Cummings, Col. (ret.), USAF; the OTHS AFJROTC; and Miss O’Fallon Natalie Hale, in addition to others. The names of the newly-inscribed veterans will be introduced at this time. Pre-service music will begin at 10:45 a.m. Veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and decorations that day. A parade will follow at 2 p.m. at the O’Fallon Community Park.
